Getting There
Depending on your point of origin, getting to Harbour Island will likely take at least two legs - even if you do have your own plane. And it is this bit of extra required effort that likely keeps this special island from being overrun. There is no airport on Harbour Island, so you will be arriving by boat, most commonly after flying into North Eleuthera Airport (ELH), which is about a 5 min taxi from Three Island Dock, where you’ll take the 10 min boat ride across the harbour (no schedules, boats run frequently).
An alternative is flying into Nassau, and taking a flight to North Eleuthera or a ferry directly to Harbour Island, although the latter are infrequent, sometimes just one a day, which usually departs early in the morning. So this may not be an option unless you’ve stayed overnight in Nassau (holiday schedules vary).
Airlines from US to North Eleuthera
The simplest route to North Eleuthera (ELH) is usually via Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, where a smaller airline takes you to Eleuthera.
•Continental flies to North Eleuthera, with a stop, usually in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, and less frequently, in Orlando.
•American Airlines flies via Miami.
•Jet Blue to Nassau can be a good deal.
•US Airways appears to have limited flights with just one stop, and more flights with 2.
•Twin Air services Ft. Lauderdale to North Eleuthera, and their schedule changes daily.

When you arrive
Getting from North Eleuthera Airport to Harbour Island is quick and easy. From the time you get your luggage (which is generally within about 5 mins of arrival) to stepping foot on island, is about 20 mins. The taxi ride to the dock is about 5 mins ($5), then you’ll hop in one of these small boats shown above ($5) and it’s about 10 mins to cross the bay to Government Dock on Harbour Island. Painless.

Shopping Carts: You’d be wise to book your golf cart in advance. They are the vehicle of choice — on terra firma, anyway.
Golf carts
Golf carts are overwhelmingly the mode of transport on island, and it’s wise to rent before arrival. If you’re renting a house you can request that the golf cart be dropped at the house for your arrival. You can take a car taxi from the dock.
When renting, you’ll have the option of a 4-seater (approx. $50/day, $300/week) or a 6-seater ($70/day, $420/week). If you would like, Select Island Rentals would be happy to book your golf cart for you along with your house rental, at no extra cost.
